"Long term relationships are wanted, because you don’t want to explain what you want and how you want it over and over again. You just want to send a note, maybe a link and say .. do it and that is it. :)"

Carsten, I consider myself an experienced link builder, but sending anote and a link is not enough. In every business plan you create goals. The same thing is expected for any endeavor required in a business plan.

Personally I don't like winging it. I hope you don't take this the wrong way.

[...] Customer service expectations: You can’t expect to provide a high ticket item, without providing some sort of customer service. Including starter guides, FAQs to go with your product somewhat mitigates the need for heavy duty customer service, but you will still need some element of support. If you’re being crushed by the weight of email support, why not use an online help desk, customer support ticketing system, or work with outsourcers like AgentsOfValue? [...]

Hehe.. Cobol... I actually learned Cobol and used it for a few months... Pain in the butt. I don't know any other language that requires longer code writing to do just some simple things. To get a "Hello World" on the screen (or list print) a page full of code is needed.

Anyway, that's a bad comparison. There is the Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL world and the Wintel/IIS/.NET/SQL Server world out there. The first one might be bigger (not sure if that is actually the case), but that is irrelevant. Both worlds are big and you can not reject one or the other. It would be like assuming that all internet users use Windows/IE 6/7 and nothing else.

I happen to use Windows server with IIS. I also use SQL Sever. I have PHP installed and trying to get MY SQL working as well. Long story, I did the installation on 2 servers in the past, but it does not work on the current one for unknown reason.

Regarding the hireing. So you hire them on a monthly basis (I assume that the rates on the site refer to this). I have not read the fine print so I have a recommendation for Danny. The Buttons that say "Service XYZ starting from $XXX"... add $XXX/whatever... are the $xxx per project, per hour, day, week, month? I don't know. I rule out hourly, but the other ones would be possible.

Paying a monthly flat fee does not work for me. I have stuff that is recurring, but the amount of work varies month to month. Long term relationships are wanted, because you don't want to explain what you want and how you want it over and over again. You just want to send a note, maybe a link and say .. do it and that is it. :)

Depending on the kind of work, a rate per hour or number of words (for editorial work) is common. I guess I don't get it yet how Agents of Fortune works. I have to listen to the podcast again I guess :)

Carsten,

Why is it sad?
The vast majority of web apps I see are PHP-based.

I'd develop competency in a few core areas, rather than try to encompass the field if I was Danny. Else it could be a long road to also offer COBOL and other languages...

Proof reading, content editing would be under the scope of a writer or a virtual assistant.

Do note that these are contracted outsourcers (eg: you hire them long term), rather than a project-based solution providers like elance or rentacoder.

The rates are on the AgentsOfValue.com page, else you can skype their client enquiries manager.

Damn, no accounting services. Do you have a recommendation for that by any chance?

It is also sad that they offer only web development for Linux/Apache/PHP/MySQL and not for the Windows/IIS/.NET/SQL Server world. Well, there is room to grow. hehe.

What are their rates for proof reading and content editing (grammar, wording improvement)?

I know, I could contact him directly, but I think the answer to those questions would be interesting for other readers as well.

Cheers!

Haha.. I was looking twice too at first.. Danny Sullivan?

But if it makes him feel better, in the "real world" outside out Internet marketing bubble does the "real" Danny Sullivan probably has sometimes the problem of being confused with somebody else as well.

There is another Danny Sullivan who is more popular for "regular people" than the Search Danny Sullivan, I am talking about the Race Car Driver with that name. The Move from SEW to SEL did "our" Danny help to get the Serps for his name full with references to him. However, his Wikipedia article ranks on page one at Google AFTER the Wikipedia page for the Race Car Driver
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Sullivan

He also had an article prior "our" Danny in Wikipedia, thus the name "Danny Sullivan (technologist)" for his article, because just "Danny Sullivan" belongs to the Formula 1 race driver hehe.
