Good post, Andrew. I sincerely hope podcasting becomes more mainstream. Not because I would like to gain more exposure for my podcast (and business), but for the enormous potential for education through this new medium (it's not quite radio since it's on-demand instead of force-fed, so I call it "new"). I am addicted to learning, and listening to podcasts has fed my cravings. One point - if your readers will be starting their own podcasts, it is essential to publish the podcast with iTunes. They already have the best aggregator (IMO) and with the release of Apple TV, they will continue to publicize this new medium into homes across the world. Thank you very much, Andrew.
I’ll think about it seriously, as I really want to promote my work and keep on making books for children. How to conciliate art and marketing isn’t an easy thing (for me, at least), as one can “harm” the other.
I’ll follow your advices.
Google adwords may not be the good thing for me as I’m not able to monetize the traffic yet. But i’ll keep it in my mind.

I looked at your site. Your illustrations are very pretty.

For generating traffic, I’d suggest you might do better with traffic from social sources like MySpace, forums and Squidoo.

Search engines will not be able to index your graphics effectively, although the filenames you give your files (eg. “Hand-Illustration-Girl.jpg” might work better than “Picture34.jpg”)

Else, you could try a PPC like google adwords, but then you’d want to be able to make money from that, to offset the advertising costs.

Hi Andrew,
I’m a french new reader and i’ve found very interesting advices here. Thank you!
I’ve searched a lot but I couldn’t get informations for a specific need.
I’m interested in generating traffic on illustrations content website-or blog- do you think it’s possible? (Would be kind of portfolio).
I’ve found “A Picture Can Bring A Thousand Clicks” but illustrations(pictures) are not used the same way.
Do you think that generating traffic on that kind of web-content is possible with almost no text, or titles only?

Andrew, it seems to only play 1′18″ for me.
One thing about first podcasts and videos is the reaction to the accent. I knew you were in Singapore but did not expect it. It was the same when Darren at Problogger did his first video. There were a lot of comments about his Aussie accent. I think that is a part of the personalization.
I’ll be looking forward to the next podcast.

Great job, Andrew! How’s the learning curve for getting started? Did you have to buy anything special? The sound quality was good!
