Paypal has a Singapore office and you can approach them if you have sizable balances.

Alternatively, you can buy products and services (eg: from eBay or Amazon) using your paypal balance and use it that way.

If the amount is smaller (a couple of thousand), the forex conversion will not be more than $10-20, so it should be ok.

Thanks for sharing. Regularly, I also receive small amounts of USD payment for my products sold on Ebay.

As an international seller, it would be wise to accept Paypal and USD. However, whenever the money comes home in SGD, Paypal has to earn another cut from us by its retail exchange rate.

I like your idea of making payments for trusted friends who happen to use USD to buy merchandise from internet. But, how often will they do that to sustain a low USD balance in our Paypal accounts so that we do not suffer the sliding USD value too much?

Is there another way to go around it? I believe there is. I’m still finding.

Desmond: I have been selling some eBooks on eBay, but I have not had much success with that so I plan to relook at my strategy and revise it.

Paddy: thanks for the suggestion, that will work well for large transactions. At the moment, we’re looking more at Business-to-consumer transactions.

If it is a bigger amount to pay or receive, work it out between the traditional T/T payment thru banks. At times can save quite a bit even with the currency rates or charges.
