I have my feet in both worlds too like you and I agree that it is more satisfying to have your own product. However - I have made more money as an affiliate than a product owner. These are not common in the IM industry but I found that this is a cross between the two options. It allows you to create your own resources to recruit affiliates and hence allows you to brand yourself and you also benefit from your own marketing as an affiliate. I created my own affiliate training center where I coach my own affiliates to sell other people's products.
