WordPress 2.5 Out In March January 29, 2008

The current version, 2.3, still has a number of issues yet to be resolved, but the great thing is that the Automattic and third-party plugin developers are constantly chugging away at the hardest working blogging platform in my eyes.
Ryan Boren, part of the WordPress development team, just put up his “s/2.4/s.5/g” post that the WordPress development team will be skipping WordPress 2.4 and releasing WordPress 2.5 in March, together with the promise of “some big new features”.
What’re the “big new features”?
No secret really, if you check out the WordPress roadmap.
If you drill down to the specific WordPress 2.5 milestone level, you will find details of some of the features being worked on.
For example, WP 2.5 will have the ability to search through static “pages”, in addition to the “posts”.
Tweaks for WP plugins and cache (which should give better blog performance, as a cache file would require lower resource overhead compared to a .PHP script), uploading of flash and 3gpp files.
And a host of other features designed to make WordPress an easy platform for new bloggers.

Hi Andrew,
I have read that you specialize in creating niche blogs. Do you still have hundreds of active blogs sitting out there? If so do you bother to upgrade them all (including the ones that you aren’t developing actively but are still on the web)?

I don’t think it’s a quantity issue when it comes to the internet, it’s more a quality issue.
I’d rather have a single site generating $10,000 a month, rather than 10,000 blogs generating $1 each.

I am not sure what upgrade you’re referring to, I don’t think it hurts to add new content to your sites regardless of whether you’re using PPC or organic traffic from the search engines.
In terms of human visitors, it wouldn’t hurt to continue to improve your sites either.

I’m guessing he meant to upgrade blogs to the newest version. Even if a webhost does the one-click installs that can get tedious. My biggest irritation is keeping all the plugins updated (as I am a plugin whore - seriously have an issue). I’d love to see something in WP like in Mozilla and have seen a plugin or two w/ the auto-update though it never seemed to work well. You know of anything that takes care of that issue or heard any rumblings of that being a feature in future editions?
