RIP Microblogging and Twitter November 15, 2007
Posted by Andrew Wee in : blogging , 7 commentsIs Microblogging all it’s cracked up to be?

You might’ve noticed that one of the widgets in the sidebar is missing.
Twitter has been an interesting experiment, especially some of the exchanges I’ve had with Sam Harrelson, who’s certainly an intelligent and expressive microblogger.
So what’s my opinion of microblogging?
It’s great if you’re at the sidelines of a seminar or tradeshow and a good way to get updates out. We might see some interesting updates from the Blog Haus at Affiliate Summit.
If you’re waiting in transit at the airport, or on a long subway ride, it’s a good time killer [Although I think you'd get more out of a good book...]
Where microblogging doesn’t work for me, is blogging in the midst of work.
If you disrupt your usual work to file a 140 character update, it can mess up your train of thought.
So though I’ll be checking in regularly to my twitter account, I likely won’t be checking it fantatically.
What’s your experience with microblogging?

Meet Me In Las Vegas For Some Affiliate Magic November 14, 2007
Posted by Andrew Wee in : affiliate marketing , 4 commentsThe tickets are booked, the bags aren’t packed, but one things for sure, I’m headed to Las Vegas at the end of this month for Anik Singal and Jeremy Palmer’s PPC Classroom Live!

Yes it’s going to be a 24+ hour flight, and it’s during the peak season where it was absolute murder to get my ticket.
But well worth it…
PPC Classroom Live is the live workshop component to Anik and Jeremy’s PPC Classroom product.
Here’s a taste of the Super Affiliate lineup:

(Left-to-right) Mark Widawer, Ros Gardner, Greg Cesar, Anik Singal, Amit Mehta, Jeremy Palmer, Kirt Christensen, David Bullock
Certainly worth flying all the way there for a couple of days (the event is on December 1-2 in Vegas).
For some affiliates who’re new to the industry and trying their luck, affiliate marketing can be a gamble…
Especially if you don’t have (more…)

Monday Question: “Can I Be A Successful Blogger and Affiliate Marketer?” November 12, 2007
Posted by Andrew Wee in : Internet Marketing , 3 commentsToday’s Monday Question comes from Ken who asks:
“I’m a new Internet Marketer and like you, I plan to focus on blogging and affiliate marketing. I make about $500 a month now.
What’s the best way of doing this? I want to be the next Darren Rowse! I’m planning to quit my job by the end of the year after getting my bonus if this gig works out for me…”
My answer:
It’s great to hear you’re taking action on your goals, Ken, especially as you’ve found that the Internet lifestyle gives you more options.
I don’t think newer Internet Marketers can successfully master two areas, unless you’re very disciplined. You probably should focus on one area.
Between blogging and affiliate marketing, although the two fields are related, I’d recommend you focus on affiliate marketing as that activity directly generates income. With blogging, income tends to be a secondary focus (unless you’re highly skilled at monetizing your blog).
I’m more concerned with the fact that you’re generating $500 from your Internet Marketing efforts now.
Have you calculated your (more…)

Domain Registrar Namecheap November Coupon Code November 11, 2007
Posted by Andrew Wee in : Internet Marketing , 4 commentsIn case you weren’t aware, the domain name registrars unilaterally raised domain registration prices as of mid October, so every coupon to lower registration a little helps (especially if you tend to register them in bulk). Here’s the Namecheap coupon code for November:
gobblegobble
It’ll reduce the 1-year registration from $9.29 to $8.41.
It doesn’t apply for renewals, although I’ve heard that if you have at least 50 domains, you can write namecheap’s customer service and request a custom renewal code.
Having said that, the 1-year registration for .info domains at $4.88 are a bargain and have a level of implied credibility too. (just think about a .INFO versus a .COM). So those are a good alternative.
Although GoDaddy and some of the other registrars might be priced a little lower, Namecheap still gets my vote for its speedy domain change updates and easy-to-use admin panel.
Have a good time saving some cash, and resist the urge to grab 100 more domains…(unless you plan to use them).
