Monday Question: Drive Away Browsers And Seek Buyers

A client of mine showed me their blog, and asked: “I’m not happy with the income my blog is generating. Can you help me increase my profit? I run both google adsense and affiliate offers“.

While I can’t show the blog or do a screencapture due to confidentiality reasons, here are some points to help you bring your blog monetization to the next level.

Nothing beats a well-tuned blog. This means tracking your analytics and conversions, and making the improvements and tracking, and repeating the cycle.

Broadly, you need to understand the intention and outcome of every visitor to your blog.

Are they there to browse? To make a comparison? To make a purchase?

I’ve found that AdSense publishing is suited for browsers who are still looking for information and aren’t close to making a buying decision yet.

I’ve found AdSense to provide a fairly low ROI (return on investment), so I’ve focused on my affiliate marketing efforts.

You can’t have it both ways…

It’s unlikely that a visitor will both click on an adsense ad AND buy a product from you – It’s either one or the other.

I’ve heard pseudo blogging “experts” say that you should have both adsense and affiliate offers on your blog, because someone who doesn’t buy, will click on your adsense ads instead.

THIS IS COMPLETE NONSENSE.

If you follow such ill-founded advice, you could possibly Continue reading

New PPC Marketers Must Overcome These Challenges…

As I’m working with PPC Super Affiliate Amit Mehta on our Super Affiliate Accelerator project, I’ve stumbled on a number of challenges that new PPC marketers are going to face, and have developed some workarounds for them. Plus new PPC marketers can get free AdWords traffic too.

Which PPC Ebook Should I Buy?

The first challenge, PPC marketers will face is the plethora of PPC ebooks (primarily focused on AdWords) out there. There’s a large number of PPC-focused forums and affiliate marketing forums with large PPC sub-sections.

So which do you choose?

Before buying anything, I’d suggest time checking out the AdWords Help Center and reading the Inside AdWords blog. (They’re both FREE).

As you know, I buy just about every Internet marketing product out there and a number of AdWords “Insider” ebooks merely rehash the content contained with the Help Center.

So save your $47 (use it for your PPC costs instead) and check out the resources, the Google AdWords team has provided for free…

Can I Test Google AdWords For Free?

If you’re new to using paid traffic, you might have a slight phobia as I did (as I’ve been using free social traffic generation methods to bring traffic to my sites). But here’s a way to get free adwords traffic.

There’s a number of free AdWords coupons out there (so you can have a free PPC trial if you choose to).

You can google for Continue reading

Keyword Secret Product Review

If you’re a blogger or an info marketer, I guess you might be like I was when I first started out, figuring that keyword tools were redundant, because you would go ahead and optimize your site for “internet marketing” or “make money online”. While you can try that, you’d get much more leverage from a tool that my friend, Howie Schwartz has recently developed and launched.

If you’re not familiar with Howie, you’re not alone. Till recently, he was a blackhat SEO turned Web2.0 specialist developing products and training together with the likes of Dr Mike Woo-Ming and Keith Baxter.

Gamers might be especially pleased to find out that Howie was executive producer of the first Grand Theft Auto game.

Since his move into Internet marketing, he’s developed a couple of custom tools which his technical team uses to develop his niche sites.

I had a chance to see how he’s dominated the SERPs (search engine results pages) with multiple sites all pointing towards his central site.

Part of this strategy involves his inhouse tools, one of which he’s recently commercialized as Keyword Secret.

While there’re a multitude of keyword tools in the market, what differentiates Keyword Secrets is that it’s an application built on top of the Google API (application programming interface) so the data is focused on Google’s results (ie no dilution by the inclusion of tier-2 or secondary data sources).

The key USP for me is Keyword Secret’s “Power Niche” feature. The power niche does a real time analysis of Google SERPs for a given keyword/keyphrase and generates a keyword list based on the live results.

The bottomline? The keyword lists you get are datamined or analyzed and scraped from Google’s results.

Although you may not be guaranteed top position on the SERPs, you will Continue reading

Are Webmail Storage Quotas Redundant?

The last time I checked my Gmail quota (actually just a few minutes ago), I was just using 45 megabytes of my 3,373 megabyte quota. So are email quotas irrelevant?

If that’s not enough, over at the Gmail blog, they’ve just mentioned “More Gmail Storage for All

In my opinion, it’s been a brutally effective marketing campaign with the other free email marketing services like Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail upping their 20megabyte and 100megabyte quotas to try to match the (current) market leader.

Will you be able to exhaust it all?

Not likely, unless you’re Continue reading

Monday Question: Is Web Advertising The Easiest Path To Internet Income?

This week’s Monday Question comes from Simon:

I see several options to run web advertising on my websites, and it looks very easy compared to affiliate marketing. Wouldn’t it be easier to make money this way?

That’s a good question.

Your internet income is determined by your effort.

The level of engagement (the time and effort you put into your marketing efforts) generally determines the type of return you get.

Here’s a listing of different monetization techniques with payouts listed from lower returns to higher returns:

Web advertising -> CPA (cost per action) marketing -> pay per sale (or what’s traditionally known as affiliate marketing) -> product creation

Web advertising refers to programs like the Google AdSense publisher program, Yahoo Search Marketing ads, WidgetBucks or programs like Chitika and Kontera.

I’ve found that web advertising generally Continue reading
